    Hi,
    • Should I update my ROM?
    • Can I update to ICS?
    • Where can I find explicit, step-by-step instructions (for dummies)?
    Thanks.

    Firmware: 2.3.4
    Baseband:I9000XXJVQ
    Kernel: DarkCore_2.9.2_JVQ
    Build: DarkyROM JVQ v10.2

1.) Not even necessary if you don't have bugs or your phone isn't laggy
    2.) YES
3.) Depends on what you want to do. Flashing or not flashing? Ics or GB?

Actually I want to upgrade because my phone does lag at times. I even get black screens for a few seconds too often. And at least once a week the phone freezes and I have to take out the battery to restart it. If it will increase speed and performance by upgrading to ICS, I think I'd prefer that. But, as I wrote, I need specific, step-by-step instructions.

I'm using ICS for the last few months. So far I'm happy with that...

"specific, step by step instruction"? Ain't that too demanding?
How about you searching yourself, I believe the forum has more than sufficient information regarding flashing, roms and etc.
I haven't used ICS yet and I'm waiting for a FULL rom on jw4.

My suggestion for now: use DarkyROM 10.4.2 which can be found at: http://www.alliance-rom.com/community/threads/darkyrom-v10-4-2-xwjw1.6577/
(I really dislike the idea of separation, disperse force always do no good, but nvm...)

Steps by steps guide are available, provide that you read carefully :)

I remember the time I stickied to JVQ because it felt so good, smooth, fast and stable. At that time there were not much visual mods for it since the latest ROM was JVT and that fact started to eat me out slowly. If I were you, I'd upgrade to JVU or at least JVT if you want to stay in Gingerbread. JVU was the latest I used before switching to ICS and it was really smooth compared to JVT, not to mention JVQ. :)

You can update to ICS, but it's totallly up to what you want. ICS brings your SGS to another level, what comes to usability, speed and visuality. But you can't flash ICS from JVQ, you need to be on JVU for that.

Ok. I decided to go with ICS but have hit a major problem.

    First, my current cfg:
    GT-I9000
    Firmware: 2.3.6
    Baseband: I9000XXJVU
    Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9000XXJVU-CL851880se.infra@SEI-22#2
    Build: GINGERBREAD.XXJVU

Everything goes fine until I boot into CMW Recovery mode. Then I:
    1. Wipe Data/Factory Reset
    2. Wipe Cache Partition
    3. Go to advanced and do Wipe Dalvik Cache
    4. Flash the ROM from the SDCard

But then when the phone reboots it goes into an endless boot cycle. I have to remove the battery and use Odin to go back to 2.3.6. I read that I have to disable lagfixes, so I created a disable_lagfix folder in the Voodoo folder and rebooted. But when I repeat the whole process, it starts the boot loop at the same point in the procedure.

Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks.
